Reminders:
This Friday is a teacher workshop day, so there is no school.

The PTA reading incentive sleepover date has changed.  Please see the flyer in your Monday folder.  If your child is participating, they need to have read (and documented) a total of 600 minutes by Monday, March 19th.

Field Trip

Our field trip to Stonewall Farm is the morning of Thursday, March 22nd.  We will be learning about the maple sugaring process and hopefully taking a hayride.  Please fill out and return the permission slip that is in today’s Monday folder.  We will leave promptly at 9:00 am on the 22nd, so please be sure your child is here on time that day.

Sleep
Now that we’ve changed our clocks and the evenings are lighter, please make sure your child is getting to bed at a reasonable time.  Children this age need 10-12 hours of sleep per night.  There were a number of very cranky children in the classroom last week – which affects not only their learning ability, but also the ability of the whole class to stay focused and positive.  Thanks for your help with this!

Wood and Paper
We wrapped up our science unit last week by building very creative wood and paper constructions, most of which have already gone home.  Please take time to look through the rest of your child’s work from this unit in today’s Monday folder.  They all did a great job learning about different properties of wood and paper, recording their observations, and communicating their knowledge at a whole school meeting.

Over the next few weeks we will explore nutrition and poison safety, as well as learning about the maple sugaring process in preparation for our field trip.  At the end of March we will begin a unit on Energy.

Ask Me

1)  What did you like best about the wood and paper unit?

2)  What experiment is still going on in your classroom?  (We left a tub of water with various items in it on a table for several weeks, and are trying to determine whether the penny, paperclip, tin foil, or piece of redwood turned the water brown, and what happened to all the water from the tub.)
